Why are you going to church? What is the purpose for going to church? Is church relevant today? There are a lot of reasons people go to church.

The sinner comes to the temple with their sacrifice and shows the priest their sacrifice. The priest examines the sacrifice to make sure it is perfect. The priest never examines you. Then the sinner lays their hand on the head of the sacrifice and your sins are transferred to the sacrifice and now you are free and clear.

The temple was used mostly for sacrificing and praying at the altar. There was a lot of blood flowing in the temple. The smell of death, pain and suffering filled the air at the temple. People came to buy and sell in the outer courts of the temple. The law was read in the temple. Sounds like church TODAY!

Church is used today for a lot of things. People have their reasons for going to church. I am not here to challenge your reason for going to church. I am just letting you know that you don’t have to go to church to bring you sacrifice (sins) to church. You don’t have to become the sacrifice. You don’t have to go to church to hear about how bad you are. You don’t have to go to church to get your sins forgiven. The church doesn’t have to be a place of death, pain and suffering. The old covenant church died on the cross of Calvary.

Hebrews 7:27 says “Who needs not daily as those high priests, to offer up sacrifice, first for his own sins and then for the people’s: for this he did once, when he offered up himself.”  Hebrews 9:12 says “Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us.

The new covenant church is a church that is full of joy, praise, singing, and most important, preaching and teaching the GOOD NEWS! The church is a place of healing, deliverance, provision and fellowship. The church is a happy place, a bright place, a loving place, a forgiving place. The church is the a safe haven. The church is no longer a place of sacrifice and altar.
