From the book, The Stupefying Grace Of God

God gives grace to the person who shows up one hour before the end of a work day…that person gets the same wages as the person who worked all day…that person who works all his life for God gets the same grace that a person who cries out to Jesus on his death bed like the thief on the cross…that son who took his inheritance and squandered it and came home to a party because he had seen the light received the same grace that that the son who was considered the good son…

What I have learned about grace is it is not up to me to determine who deserves grace or not. Sometimes that’s hard to do when you think you deserve more grace than that person sitting in prison who found Jesus in a cold cell. We shouldn’t work our buns off because God expect it. We should do it because we have the heart of Jesus. That’s what grace is.
